Time for a new place: New country - new language. New food, religion, currency ... Talking about the currency. It feels so strange to walk around with 50,000 and 100,000 notes like that, but the fact is that 100,000 IDRs are only about 7 USD. So crazy!
I had zero expectations about Bali and Indonesia but I got this magical feeling when we arrived to Bali. The music at the airport and the smell of the incense. Even the most busy business woman / business man seems to be present in a way that is contagious.
We booked the first night in Kuta, ate chicken satay with rice and went down to the beach to see the sunset and the people surfing.
Early on Wednesday morning (6:30) they came and picked us up at the hotel and we went with the van to the harbor. From there we went with the ferry to Lembongan Island and from Lembongan Island to Nusa Penida. We bought a ticket that includes the entire Bali - Nusa Penida - Gili Air - Lombok route and back to Bali including transfers to and from hotels and we paid 1,700,000 IDRs in total for both of us. You feel rich when you throw millions on the table like that, haha.
We found a reasonably priced hotel, rented a scooter and then took a trip out south on the island of Nusa Penida. I could never have guessed how beautiful this island is! High mountains, white beaches and clear blue waters. Maybe not so great places to swim at - but it's amazingly beautiful!
We first went the wrong way and ended up at a viewpoint. The pictures don't do this viewpoint justice - it was SO cool! It's called Banah Cliff - it's 300 meters straight down to the ocean. Looks totally unreal!
We then proceeded to the place that was the intended destination - Kelinkling Bay. GOD that was beautiful. But so crowded 😔. Apparently, tourism has increased incredibly rapid here.
We intended to skip it first, but finally we went down the 400 meters to "the hidden beach" by basically climbing. It was quite tricky to get down but we finally made it. We were rewarded with a really cool and almost untouched beach with high waves (you should not swim there). There were also some wild monkeys. The climb up again was really sweaty and I felt a bit tired even before we went down so when we got up again we just went home, ate Nasi goreng (rice, vegetables and eggs) and went back to the hotel.
