Apo Reef - the world's second largest interconnected coral reef, after the Great Barrier Reef in Australia! Apo Reef is located north-west of the island of Mindoro in the Philippines and Sablayan is one of the best places to go to for diving there.
I just felt like I had to dive there after I met a lot of people who recommended it and read a lot o about the reef online. I decided to go on a 2 day liveaboard (liveaboard means that you sleep on board the boat).
The first day we met up at 6 in the morning, packed the last things on the boat and headed towards the reef which is 3.5h by boat from the Sablayan coastline. When we arrived we could not have had better circumstances because the sea was quite still and there was not a single cloud in the sky. I did 3 dives the first day and it was completely magical, the water was very clear, sight of 35-40 meters, and we saw all sorts of fish species, turtles, sea urchins etc. ..
After the dives, we anchored in the middle of the sea, ate som food (it was a great cook on board), played cards and drank beer at sunset.
Day number two: the first dive was the best of the three we made day no two. It started with a whole shoal of Baracudas and shortly after that we swam into another shoal with quite big bumperhead fish.
To sum up, there was really good diving and a must for those who like to dive / snorkel if you are pyssing by Sablayan!
