Hey! Hope you're having a great national day! I heard it's nice weather in most parts of Sweden today. 😀I really think we are worth it, especially on the national day :)
We woke up the first morning in Wayalailai, Fiji, just before 7 AM fully rested. Ate breakfast - pancakes. Not that kind pancakes as we are used to but they were like deep fried pancakes with air inside of them. Of course, I havn't got any picture of them just on theflat pancakes that we got the other day. Yummy! We hadn't planned the day because we waited for a phone call from the diving company. Tim wanted to do the bull shark dive that Fiji is known for. They finally called and booked him in for the next day. This meant that we had a day without any plan so we joined our friend Stefan to the island where the movie Castaway was filmed.
It was a bumpy ride to say the least because we were on the open sea for one hour and it was a small boat. Six adults and two children. We first went to a village and met Ellis aunt and her family. They had been fasting for a week (for religious reasons) and today was the day they ate again and got to drink Kava.
Ellis cousin us to the island where Castaway was recorded while he was out spearfishing. The island was very nice (however, neither of us has seen the film so we have to see it afterwards). On the other side of the island, some country's "Robinsson" ("Survivors") was recorde at the same time as we were there. We got a small tour of the place where Tom Hanks crushed a coconut and engraved everyone's name onto a stone. Went for a swim, snorkeled and just relaxed by the beach some time before we went back to the village (where Ellis aunt lived) to have lunch - fish, chicken and breadfruit. I've never eaten (or heard about) breadfruit before but it actually tasted very good. The boat trip home was also special, they had been drinking some Kava with alcohol so I was just happy that we made it home safely before darkness, haha. We got dinner and played some cards with their daughter Sara. Oh my what a fast learner she was. I realize that I have become a little bit older (=learning slower) (hello 25-years crisis).
Last day at Wayalailai Island, TIm went to the bull shark dive. I stayed at the resort where the boat went from snorkeling, reading my book and relaxed by the beach. Very good snorkeling. Tim was back already after two hours. And the shark dive? Tim was so happy. They fed the sharks with spears then lay behind a stone wall at the bottom while they saw the sharks pass by in front of them. They call this "shark awakening". The bull shark is worlds second most dangerous shark. I would never do it, haha 😅
We stayed for a few hours at the resort before they came and picked us up, we returned to our little village, ate lunch, packed our stuff and said goodbye to the family. Was a bit sad to leave them but we were ready to go back to the mainland. The boat came Fiji time (= very late) but we finally got on it. The boat trip into the mainland was very beautiful and the weather was amazing as every day since we came to Fiji.
