Camping in the sugar cane fields.

We slept pretty good the first night in our campervan. I love the camping life. So simple, but at the same time so convenient. Everything you need is under one roof and you bring it with you wherever you go. When we were in Asia I also missed cooking my own food so it was super cool to finally be able to do that as well.
We made porridge with cinnamon and banana and pineapple for breakfast. We made the dishes and unpacked the "bed" before heading to Barron Falls. On the way to the falls we saw a dead kangaroo (road kill) so we hoped to see one alive but so far we didn’t, unfortunately. Maybe it's a myth that there are kangaroos in Australia altogether?
We drove on a road with great nature and we wanted to stay overnight somewhere outside a camping area (which we heard isn’t so easy to do in Australia). We ended up camping in the middle of a sugar cane field. You can put up the curtains all around the car but this night we chose to have the curtains open at the back door so we could fall asleep under a super-beautiful starry sky. 😍
Next morning we woke up to the sunlight (about 06AM). Already half past seven in the morning a car stopped just outside our campervan, probably tell us that we were not allowed to sleep there. However, he backed off when he realized we were just leaving. The plan for the day was Townsville but we stopped by a cozy community for breakfast. Such a nice view!
Once in Townsville, we saw Jezzine Barracks, a World War II memorial, and took a stroll along The Strand. So crazy that they have such nice beaches here but are not allowed to swim because of one or the other - crocodiles, jellyfish and all kinds of dangerous animals.
Tim gives it a thumbs down, haha. The plan was to go shopping in the afternoon but since it was Labor Day everything was closed so we had to postpone that After two nights at very simple campsites, various electronics need to be uploaded so we continued further south to a campsite with electricity and shower (things you kind of take for granted otherwise, but not when you are a backpacker or live in the campervan )
